Closet challenge · 3 months
Project 333
33 items. 3 months. The original capsule dare.
The rules
- Pick 33 items — clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories. Everything.
- Box up the rest for the full 3 months. No peeking, no swaps.
- Excluded (free): workout gear you actually sweat in, underwear, sleepwear.
- One "shopping timeout" exception per 3-month round, if you must.
- Log what you actually wore — the point is the data, not the deprivation.
Why it works
Project 333 is the granddaddy of closet challenges, and it works because 33 is small enough to force real choices. The surprise is almost always the same: nobody notices, and mornings get fast.
Armoiria runs this challenge natively — streaks, outfit logs, and wear counts that make the checklist fill itself: armoiria://challenges?preset=project-333
The checklist
Print it, stick it inside the closet door, tick as you go.
- Counted all 33 items and photographed the pile
- Boxed and labeled the rest with the end date
- Removed excluded categories honestly (no "athleisure that is really weekend wear")
- Planned week 1 outfits in advance
- Set a weekly outfit-logging habit
- Day 30 review: what do you miss? (Usually nothing.)
- Day 60 review: what would you re-buy?
- Day 90 review: what stays out of the box forever?
Frequently asked questions
Do underwear and socks count toward the 33?
No. The official rules exclude underwear, sleepwear, and workout clothing — as long as the workout clothing is genuinely only worn to work out.
What if the seasons change mid-challenge?
Most people run Project 333 season to season (roughly 3-month blocks) precisely so the weather flips between rounds, not during one.
